Note:   One of the most common native oaks, found on a variety of soils types and environments.  The Water Oak produces an abundance of acorns which are a favorite food of wildlife.  In addition, numerous seedlings produced may also become a maintenance issue. The species also has relatively weak wood compared to other oaks that causes substantial branch breakage and decay.  Sometimes the Water Oak may be considered a liability in the landscape.  Leaves turn from dull yellow to brown and drop over an extended period from early autumn through late winter.
